I’ve been meaning to share a few photos I took while I was covering events at the All American Quarter Horse Congress for the American Quarter Horse Journal. I picked a fun day to go, as it definitely showed the versatility of the Quarter Horse–from hunter under saddle, to pole bending, Western pleasure, and barrel racing.

No Hoof No Horse? Proper Hoof Care

Did you know that one of the most popular topics discussed amongst trainers is about your horse’s hooves?

“I think everybody has feet problems, and I think it’s just one of those things that we talk about all the time,” says multiple World and Congress Champion trainer Kenny Lakins.

I spoke with some of the top trainers in halter, Western pleasure, jumping, and all-around to see how they care for their horses’ feet, as well as farrier George Pavelek, who has shod some of the top hunt horses in his area. They all shared their tips and experiences with shoes and bare feet in the January/February 2014 issue of the Equine Chronicle:
